bildet er tatt på Kristi Himmelfartsdag i 1984. Den
viser M/F "Rennesøy" (idag M/F

On
Ascension Day in 1984 I shot this image at the Isle of
Aksje, M/F "Rennesøy", now
"Lysefjord" until sold, is here seen arriaving
from Vikevåg enroute Stavanger via Aksje, Vestre Åmøy
and Bru as intermediate stops. She is turning to pup her
aft in at the key seen left. The Island of Aksje is adjasant and connected through a Bridge to the Isle of Utstein, conatining the oldest stone building in Northern Europe, Utstein Clouster, also renowned for it's paranormal activity; ...the munks at the Clouster in fact made Transportation History as they started sailings between Great Britain and Norway at a more or less fixed schedule. Connections have allways been very strong between the Stvanager Region and The British Isles, and westbound in General. For instance towns like Jorvik (Today: York) and Sønderland ( Today: Sunderland) are Norwegian, meaning Soil-bay and Southern Land in Norwegian, and Isles like Guernsey and Jersey originate from Norwegian Øy (Norwegian "Ø" is pronounced as You pronounce "U" in English, Like in SUnday - wich is also like most weekday names in English derived from Norwegian. In fact the channel Isles is called up after Nowegian First names, f.ex. Geir, the really name of the Isle beeing Geir's Øy ( Geir's Island, Jersey/ Guernsey). The Viking's wich came from the South Western parts of Norway of course found Vin Land ( Wine Land - America), 'Mount Norumbega' in Canada and burnt down Viking Middle Age Farms are of course found on the East Coast of America. Countries like Iceland ("Island" - Meaning ICE Land in Norwegian and later used as the English name for an Isle) and Orkney ( again Norwegian Øy in the end) derive derectely from Norwegian, Scot's Land is also from Norwegian, and in Scotland one also uses "Ja", the Norwegian for Yes. The King of the Stavanger Region was mighty (Rygerkongen - Ryger King - a lot of Rødne Boats on these pages have the Ryger up front in there names.). The King's of this area where also known - it should be said - to be quite fare, they for insatnce used trells (Imported Irish Slaves) for 4 years (by law), before they where given there own patch of land to cultivate in Norway. The last King was 'fooled' and killed at Hafrsfjord (Just outside here), his mighty Kingdom of many isles and land areas (including and enormous patch of the Norwegian Coast streching far beyond Bergen, up to Sogn and Fjordane and even as far as Trodheims Fjorden), Like Green Land ( derieved from Norwegian again, Norwegian for Greenland is Grønland meaning Green Land), then beeing taken over by Norway. He even rulled over Paris "Nordmandie" ("North Man In"). The King's where known to be fare and square there, demanding taxes at fixed rates, otherwise they would cause some troubble. When you travel south of Stavanger You'll meat a lot of people who are green-eyed, red-hair etc. ( a lot of Irish looks mixed in). They have this genetical beeing imported from Ireland ( Ir Land meaning Rainy Land) back in history. The Viking's where very good at handycraft, trade and where really a lot 'nicer' than history has depicted them. The Island of Aksje is know for agricultural produce and the puls is (was) much slower than in Stavanger. The Island of Rennesøy, where M/F "Rennesøy" ended her route at Vikevåg is known also for agriculture and Norway's oldest cicilization, but also NATO secreacy due to a lot of different faccilitees. One of the faccilitees beeing a large submarine base, where submarines enter submurged into a cave system. One could often spot hunter, killer submarines operating in close proximity to the M/F "Rennesøy" (now "Lysefjord") showing themselves slightly and cruising in different angles to avoid coliding with her, and probarbly having her in their periscope. 2 of the 6 quite so new class of Submarines, the Ula-class in the Norwegian Navy (Hunter Killer's) bear the names KNM "Utsira" and KNM "Utstein" (The Protype of course beeing KNM "Ula", wich are of course names of Islands in the near proximitee of the base. ( They are quite outstanding in terms of operational capabiltees, cost was 2,4 billion NOK each when purchased and built in the beginning of the 90's). |
