To cover-up his ill-health and need for hip replacement, Sai Baba claimed the cause of his walking problems was 'divine magnetism'. Mother Earth was so attracted to him that his feet stuck to the ground. Even his whole body became 'magnetic' and everything stuck to it. Hilarious stuff.
Sathya Sai Baba claims to 'materialize' genuine diamonds, which he gives to some (mostly rich) followers. Indian ministers and various VIPs are seen wearing Sai Baba "diamond rings" in public! and important people flaunt these Sai Baba rings in public. But not one such 'diamond' has ever been attested to be genuine, but only found to be a cheap synthetic gemstone.
Sai Baba has many times stated that he will not age or suffer ill health due to his "purity". Now, however, he shows visible signs of ageing and has also for more than 2 years been unclear and confused in his diction, while he is confined to wheelchairs and physical assistance for standing up and moving even a step.
Sai Baba says "A sentence of death awaits everyone, which cuts off their pride and pomp." Fascinating news from one whose pride and pomp visibly surpasses anything seen in any religious movement today (as a visit to any official Sai website's picture gallery will demonstrate fully). His preaching is down-putting of everyone, except himself, ever proudly putting his Divine Selfhood beyond all human criticism!
At Christmas 2002, Sai Baba pretended to materialize a tiny Bible which he claimed to be unique, a text from 1530 AD designed to show the common features of all religions. But this was a Bible printed recently which is on sale on the Internet, and it it a standard set of texts taken from the Bible, nothing more.
Sathya Sai pretends to be a renunciant Godman but is surrounded by wealth and a vast property and business complex. His now-deceased younger brother, Janakiramiah, was a multi-million dollar property speculator and Sai Baba made him a member of the tax-exempt multi-billion dollar Sathya Sai Central Trust for his part in the murders episode.
Sathya Sai Baba makes some confused and self-contradictory claims about the role and place of women. He says they protected India from destruction in the two World Wars! His overwhelming preference for males is well known - and he gives women scant attention (claiming he gives it 'inwardly' instead!) He has no women assistants or officials in his various institutions (except in separate women's colleges or institutions) with some few exceptions in some overseas bodies. Women are given a secondary role wherever possible and are exploited in this male dominated environment.
Sai Baba points out there is strife, misery and turmoil everywhere in India! His answer to it: prayer! Not so effective, one must surmise, in raising the poor, introducing a respectable level of social equality, cleaning up the exploitation and pollution which are strangling much of the land! Prayer is a final resort of the otherwise totally helpless, yet there is no proof it has the desired effects.
Sathya Sai Baba ridicules scientists as 'foolish' for they do not recognise that praying to the Earth (Bhoomidev) is effective, because they are ignorant of the "inner significance" of what he vaguely calls "reaction, reflection and resound" (his example is echoes heard in mountains etc.!). Sai Baba ignores that science has penetrated many of the deepest former 'mysteries' of the cosmos and life such as the inner workings of genes and atoms, the origins and causes of nearly all natural phenomena, of stars billions of light years away. Instead he reaches ancient pre-scientific superstitions like deities as causing natural phenomena (eg. Mother Earth or Bhoomidev) He advises they can be assuaged by prayer, even suggesting prayer to Indra for rain etc.
The main cause of Partition is well known to have been Hindu-Muslim religious differences. Sathya Sai Baba usurped the name of Shirdi Sai Baba, the former saint who adopted both faiths at once. Yet Sathya claims to be an avatar of Indian deities, which is totally against the Koran and Islamic teaching. His ashram and all about him is strongly Hindu-oriented, despite his empty claim to be 'universal'.
Once Sai Baba preached with some credibility against materialism and pomp, but now he is at the centre of both. He started actually speaking to the poor, but no longer... only the rich, well-heeled and potential sources of more power and money have been given interviews for decades. Flood

property or worldly goods (i.e. he pretends he is a renunciate) - which must be
one of the smartest accounting tricks but most obvious deceits that any Indian

1993 intrusion resulting in murders seem to be quite different to those alleged

of Andhra Pradesh. Volcanoes and earthquakes - he often proclaims - are the
result of 'man's behaviour'. But they began long before man arrived! He is a
thumping fundamentalist who says sensual pleasures are making human bodies
weaker daily while life-spans shorten. Eye defects are developing due to
'unsacred vision'! But he lost the sight in one eye himself!
Sathya Sai Baba is
already the idol of a personality cult, which gains in strength as he grows
unreachable and beyond personal contact or close observation. He encourages
obsequious worship of himself but at the same time says he does not want it! He
accepts and actually asks for money (in private) but claims he never does and
has none anyway (a technicality only!!). He has insisted that everyone actually
is God - but unaware of it in reality - and that the spark of divinity is in
every single things in existence, but - when he was accused by many young men of
sexual abuse - he declared they were as demons and without a single spark of
divinity in them!
Many devotees I have met actually
believe that Sathya Sai Baba rules the world. But if he were an avatar
controlling the planet, how could he be making such a pig's breakfast of the
job? He corrects the the Prime Minister and the President when he sees fit, but
tells his crony followers that they take not one bit of notice!

Each year, thousands of foreigners visit Sai Baba's ashrams, having been indoctrinated by a mass of Sai Baba propaganda from books, public meetings, videos and on the internet. This is one of the very few uncensored accounts which tells things that are as they are. The God who says that he alone among all knows that he is God sails by, now in a bizarre motorised silver traditional Indian chariot (a converted jeep!).
On why foreigners visit Sathya Sai Baba's ashrams and about some of the dangers they risk from theft, corruption, embezzlement and worse. Buying into the Sai Baba ashram is now exorbitantly expensive, and one has absolutely no legal rights, even of occupancy for more than up to 1 month per annum! All the increasing difficulties and scams a visitor can face - the dangers they risk from theft, corruption, embezzlement and worse - are explained away as "tests of faith by Swami"!
Manipulation of people: flattery is a powerful tool, those who cannot resist it are probably a majority of Sai devotees.
From his elaborate golden and silver thrones, Sathya Sai Baba directs all events within his ashram. He uses flattery, and – when a person is hooked – he manipulates them very cleverly, [as well as Derren Brown does when on top form]. One should be warned of the unknown facts about visiting Prashanthi Nilayam. There are many dangers about which no one is ever informed and the tightest security controls the ashram, where secret surveillance and complete censorship of anything untoward is rigorously observed. An interesting incident occurred illustrating this when Shoko Asahara's men tried to muscle in on the ashram.
Many suffering and sick people go to Sathya Sai Baba due to the many stories they have heard about his miracles and incredible healings. Out of the supposed millions who have been through the ashrams during 60 years, remarkable few claim healing of any major kind, while - of course medical documentation is sparse and never proves the case. This is no hindrance to the many who want to gain boons or obtain the gift of becoming a healer themselves... some have more than a screw loose...
Claiming to be above and beyond the laws of science, as Creator of the Universe, Sai Baba is famed as a miracle worker, but he has also been caught faking miracles many times by many people, also on film (eg: on the BBC's 'Secret Swami').
Entertaining as a fair sample of the quite populous 'lunatic fringe' that is always prominent in the ashrams and no less throughout the Sai movement. Little wonder that such followers copy Sai Baba's fraudulence - as at the faked Shivaratri ‘regurgitation where no lingam emerged, as filmed by the BBC!
Sathya Sai Baba promotes a veritable Wonderland which none can enter without the blessing of God (i.e. himself, the Incarnate Creator of the Universe, so he says).
In any crowd sitting at the feet of Sai Baba there will always be a wide variety of opinion and behaviour, good, bad and indifferent. Well-known to seasoned visitor are those too richly endowed with egoism and insensitivity to others. Top flight modern Indian intellectuals are virtually never met. The Sai Baba example is to see the world in black and white terms and show frequent ignorance of the colours. Peculiar situations arise due to the spiritual arrogance one finds is seldom far below the surface. When it breaks out in full, be ready for a show!
Credibility stretched beyond all possible limits: Sai Baba draws door on wall and Australian goes through it and disappears back to old Oz, with 'bag and baggage'! Can you credit it? Also an entertaining imposter, the ‘teeth-clacking medium’ - too weird for words!
Feigning to be a spiritual renunciant who wants nothing for himself and cares not for name or fame. He nevertheless stretches out both hands for any donations he can obtain, using much of it on wasteful luxuries, self-glorifying projects and massive self-publicity projects. He has the cheek to claim that his critics (including myself) are writing against him for money, with no evidence - of course -because this is a base lie!
Sai Baba's promise of the mystery of liberation from the cycle of rebirths remains a mystery he can't explain. His doctrine is that
you can get it just by seeing him gag up 'lingam' (ovaloid object of stone, metal, crystal or gold etc.). This is mysteriously
suspicious, however, for the famous magician Houdini first did this trick! There are millions at stake here (dollar millions) and
the promise of liberation - though totally inexplicable - draws the crowds (and the donors). Just how much, or how many... that's all a matter of guesswork!

Much has been written about the murders in Sathya Sai Baba's apartments on June 6, 1993. Two of Sathya Sai Baba's attendants, his valet Radhakrishnan and a young male servitor, were killed by five intruders in a knife struggle. Four of the intruders (armed with knives) were locked into Sai Baba's bedroom apartment for hours and - after the long stand-off - were subsequently executed by a hail of bullets from the Puttaparthi police.
