The Dental Clinic based in Kottivakkam, about 10 miles south of Chennai (Madras) was founded in April 2001 by Dr. A. Syed of Lorenskog, Norway. The clinic serves the impoverished population in Chennai and the outlying area. Most of our patients are poor school children, but we also treat poor villagers and participate in so-called health camps. We work closely together with a number of voluntary organisations such as Junior Red Cross, SOS Children's Villages, and visit different humanitarian institutions The weekly schedule consists of 1 day at the base clinic and 4 days with the mobile unit. The clinic obtained it's own air conditioned van which was donated by the Friendship Association for KDC (Norway) so that the equipment and personnel are transported comfortably and safely to the mobile centres. |

Thus far nearly 100 dentists from all over the world have served at the project. They do a tremendous job and each year approximately 10,000 patients receive treatment!
The volunteers are housed in Madar Heim (the dentist’s house) overlooking the Bay of Bengal. The Rotary Dental Volunteers receive a daily allowance and have their transportation covered by RF. There are many places of interest within 2-3 hours drive so that the volunteers have a great opportunity to experience unique cultural treasures. Volunteers are welcome to contact:
